A man in his 20s was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being shot on Wordsworth Road in Willenhall on Tuesday evening, with police and ambulance crews called to the scene at 7.30pm.

The man was treated at the scene by paramedics, while the length of the road and parts of the surrounding area were cordoned off by police officers and searches conducted.

The scene the next day was a quiet one, with the cordon still very much in place and tape visible across Wordsworth Road and other roads on the estate, as well as police cars and vans stationed at both ends of the road and multiple officers seen out on patrol.

The shooting, which is the latest to happen in the region in the last few months, was one which had been met with a mixture of feelings and emotions by those living on and near the road.

One woman, who asked not to be named, said she had only just read about what had happened, having only known that something was up due to her partner seeing a drone flying nearby.

She said: "I've only just read about it now and the thing is that we were in last night, wrapping presents and getting ready for Christmas and we hear knocking on a door, so we wondered what was going on.

"I looked outside and I saw something flashing red and green and my partner said he thought it was a drone, which I was surprised about as I thought they were illegal and wouldn't be flown over us.
