Leon Kramolis, aged 26, of Nicholls Street, West Bromwich, pleaded guilty at Birmingham Crown Court to a range of animal welfare offences following an investigation and prosecution by the RSPCA.

The animal welfare charity had been contacted after a Staffordshire bull terrier puppy named Rex was presented to vets in a comatose state, and sadly had to be put to sleep because of the severity of his condition.

Upon examination, vets were concerned about his condition and alerted the RSCPA that they believed Rex had been intentionally harmed by his owner prior to his death.

CCTV footage from the shared housing where Kramolis was living was obtained by the charity. The footage showed him with Rex.
