Sandwell man charged in connection with fatal hit-and-run in Birmingham

A man has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision in Birmingham.

On Wednesday, December 17, West Midlands Police detained a 41-year-old man after another man died and a woman sustained leg injuries when they were hit by a car on Soho Road on Tuesday, December 16.

Harinderpal Athwal from Oldbury has now been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop and causing death by driving while disqualified and uninsured.

He has also charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to report a road collision.

Athwal has been remanded to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court today.

A 54-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, while a woman, aged 47, remains in hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

West Midlands Police are continuing to appeal for anyone with information about the collision, near the junction with Whitehall Road, shortly before 11.20am.
