After initially failing to stop, the car was pursued, where the passenger was seen releasing a fire extinguisher in the way of officers.

The man also threw a fire extinguisher canister at a police car which caused damage. A short while later, the car was stopped by officers on the A38 Northbound slip road near the M6.

Shea McCallion was arrested for theft, and aiding and abetting dangerous driving. The 19-year-old was later charged for the offences, and pleaded guilty at Birmingham Magistrates Court.

McCallion, of Kings Road, Stockland Green, was given a 12-month sentence suspended for 18 months, at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday, December 5.

Constable Joseph Gigli, from West Midlands Police's Vehicle Crime Team, said: "McCallion was involved in a dangerous pursuit where he put our colleagues at risk by using the fire extinguisher, but thankfully we were able to stop the car using our tactics."
