Man arrested after stolen vehicle recovered by Walsall officers

A man has been arrested on suspicion of stealing a motor vehicle after being stopped by police officers due to driving erratically.

The West Midlands Police response officers stopped the car in Streetly on Thursday morning (December 11) and found it had been reported stolen from a house in Great Barr.

The 22-year-old driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of the theft of a motor vehicle and going equipped for burglary after a number of tools were found, and the force confirmed he was later bailed while enquiries continue.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We recovered a stolen vehicle after it was taken from an address in Great Barr.

"Response officers, based at Walsall, were on patrol in the Streetly area at around 2.30am this morning, when they stopped a vehicle to conduct checks after spotting it being driven erratically.

"The checks revealed the vehicle had been stolen earlier from an address in Great Barr.

"A 22-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of the theft of a motor vehicle and going equipped for burglary.

"Following a search a number of tools were also seized. He was taken into custody where he was later bailed as we carry out further enquiries.
