Morgan Halliday, 25, of Flintshire, Wales, was spotted driving a Volvo on Seighford Lane in Stafford in March this year.

Staffordshire Police said officers had intelligence that Halliday was driving while disqualified and potentially driving under the influence of drugs and tried to pull him over, but he ignored the signals and carried on driving.

The force said Halliday drove more than double the speed limit in his attempts to get away and mounted a verge at a turning, knocking one of the wheels on the car out of alignment.

He still tried to drive off and officers followed him until he came to a stop. He was arrested at the scene and tested positive for cannabis.

Officers also confirmed that he was disqualified from driving at the time.

After being taken to court, Halliday admitted all the offences, including driving a motor vehicle dangerously, driving while disqualified, driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit, using a motor vehicle without third party insurance and failing to stop when required by a constable.

He was sentenced to 30 weeks in prison, banned from driving for five years and ordered to pay £187 in costs at Cannock Magistrates' Court on Thursday, December 5.

PC Andy Heard, from Staffordshire Police's road crime team, said: “We are absolutely determined to stop drink and drug driving across Staffordshire.

“Drink and drug driving is one of the main contributors to fatal and serious collisions, and we’re working proactively, on a 24/7 basis, to target those putting themselves and others at serious risk of harm on our roads.”
