Extra officers on patrol at Merry Hill shopping centre as police probe 'machete' attack on teen and urge witneses to come forward - full police statement
Police are asking for witnesses to come forward after a teenager was injured in an attack at the Merry Hill centre in Brierley Hill.
West Midlands Police officers quickly responded to reports that a 17-year-old boy had been attacked with a machete at Merry Hill shopping centre on Friday, November 28 at around 3.30pm.
The victim received a small cut to the back and was taken to hospital. No confirmation has been given as to whether a machete was involved.

A teenage boy, aged 16, who was arrested on Saturday, November 29 on suspicion of wounding with intent, has since been bailed with strict conditions.
Police are continuing their work to establish exactly what happened and are working with the centre to ensure those responsible are caught.
Extra officers will be patrolling around Merry Hill over the coming weeks in a bid to offer shoppers reassurance. Police say this is also a normal operation for them in the run up to Christmas.
Detective Sergeant Liz Skyte, leading the investigation, said: “We understand how concerning this incident has been for residents and are carrying out a very detailed and thorough investigation into understanding exactly what happened.
“We would like to hear from anyone who was in the centre at the time and has any information or mobile phone footage.
“No matter how insignificant or small it may be, your assistance could greatly help with our investigation so please get in touch.
“If you’re out in the area you will see an increased police presence, this is not unusual for this time of year but we are also there to offer you reassurance that our dedicated Merry Hill police officers are out in the centre patrolling.”
Jonathan Poole, Centre Manager at Merry Hill, said: "Merry Hill supports West Midlands Police in its appeal for witnesses, and we would encourage anyone with footage of Friday's isolated incident to come forward.
“We are working closely with the police to ensure that the centre continues to be a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors."
