Man charged following series of Birmingham city centre thefts
A man has been charged with a series of thefts across Birmingham city centre.
Ashley Kelly was arrested by officers on Tuesday on Station Street and has since been charged with four thefts, an attempted theft, assault and public order offence.
Kelly, 43, of no fixed address, was remanded to appear at Birmingham Magistrates on November 26. No details are yet available of his appearance.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We've charged a man with a series of shop thefts in Birmingham city centre.
"Officers from the proactive crime team Taurus were on patrol yesterday afternoon when they spotted their prime suspect on Station Street.
"Ashley Kelly was arrested and has since been charged with four thefts, an attempted theft, assault and public order offence.
"The 43-year-old, of no fixed address, was remanded to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court on November 26.
"We know the impact of shop theft on businesses and we continually work with partners to identify, detain and prosecute anyone involved in retail crime."
