Driver accused of Willenhall shooting told jury he thought he was delivering cannabis
A man accused of a shooting in a Willenhall street told the jury he thought he was dropping off cannabis at an address in the town.
James Gray, aged 27, and Sharif Cousins, aged 49, are standing trial on possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life charges relating to an incident where a gun was discharged Princethorpe Road off Bilston Lane in Willenhall hitting a car and a residence in the early hours of May 26.
Giving evidence under oath in the witness box on Tuesday, Gray told Birmingham Crown Court he gave a lift in a relative's car to two men called 'Dwayne' and 'Dante' in return for £10 at Dante's request.
He told the jury that he had known Dante for about a month prior and had previously given him lift to drop off cannabis and was paid £30.
"When he contacted me on May 25 this was the second time. He asked me for a lift and said he would pay me petrol money," Gray said.
