The trial, which began nine weeks ago, is at the summing up stage as barristers for the five defendants are putting their final arguments for their innocence to the jury.

Mark Shorthouse, 55, from the Sandwell area, is charged with murder and manslaughter but has pleaded guilty to violent disorder.

Ryan Stanley, aged 30; John Wise, and a 16-year-old boy, both of Sandwell, are also on trial for the fatal attack and have been accused of and deny murder, manslaughter and violent disorder.
