West Midlands Police said the shooting had happened near The Lanes Shopping Centre in Wylde Green at around 7.30am on Friday, October 24, with the victim, in his 30s, taken to hospital, where his injuries were found to not be life threatening.

The force said the Major Crime Unit had launched an immediate investigation, trawling through CCTV and carrying out enquiries to establish the circumstances around what happened, and identify who was responsible.

Following lengthy enquiries, which included working with colleagues from other police forces, five people were arrested and have subsequently been charged.

Kirstie Gavin, 32, was charged with attempted murder and conspiracy to murder, Adrian Hylton, 43, was charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to murder, robbery, and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, Dwaine Patterson, 46, was charged with conspiracy to murder, Terrence Regis, 43, was charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to murder, robbery, and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and Carly Smith, 36, was charged with conspiracy to murder.

Having all now appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court, the five were remanded in custody ahead of a further hearing at Birmingham Crown Court next month.

Detective Inspector Stacey Follows, from the Major Crime Unit, said: “These charges are a significant step forward in what has been a complex and demanding investigation.

“Dedicated officers have been working around the clock since this happened, with the aim of making arrests and securing charges against those suspected to be involved, and we’re grateful for the support of police colleagues outside of WMP.
