Birmingham man and woman charged with murder after death of man in Staffordshire
A man and a woman from Birmingham have been charged with the murder of a man from nearly three years ago.
Kenneth Newton and Melanie James are set to appear at Newcastle-under-Lyme Magistrates Court on Thursday after being charged with murder, manslaughter and causing or allowing the death of a child or vulnerable adult.
The charges follow the death of Rubin Blount, who died in hospital in Tamworth in November 2022.
A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "A man and a woman have been charged with the murder of a man in Tamworth in 2022.
"Kenneth Newton, 57, and Melanie James, 63, both of Birmingham, have been charged with murder, manslaughter and causing or allowing the death of a child or vulnerable adult.
"It comes after we responded to reports of concerns for the welfare of a man at 1.27pm on November 27, 2022.
"Rubin Blount, then aged 28, who is the step brother of Kenneth, was taken to hospital but sadly died three days later.
"Newton and James will appear at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre tomorrow (Thursday, November 27)."
