Stechford Police Station is to undergo a near £8 million refurbishment thanks to funding from the Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster.

The first full renovation of the building, since it opened in the 1970s, will begin in the autumn, with the work modernising and futureproofing the police station on Station Road to create a safer, more accessible and more efficient workplace for officers, staff and the public.

Stechford Police Station will remain open and operational throughout the works, following careful planning by the city’s policing leadership team.

Upgrades include expanded car parking facilities, modernised safety and security systems, upgraded office and meeting spaces, refurbished refreshment and toilet areas, bespoke locker rooms, new victim care facilities, an expanded public contact office and installation of lifts to make the building fully accessible

Mr Foster, who owns all West Midlands Police buildings, said: “I am pleased to secure the long-term future of Stechford Police Station, through this vital investment, for the benefit of the West Midlands.

“This is a clear indication of my commitment to neighbourhood policing and to ensuring officers and staff have the facilities they need, to prevent and tackle crime and provide the public with an effective and efficient police service.

“By modernising the police station, I am not only enhancing the service provided to victims of crime and the wider community, but also improving working conditions, for our hard-working police officers and staff.”

The investment is backed by the Chief Constable, Craig Guildford, who said: “These essential works represent a major investment in policing in east Birmingham and in this building.

"Every penny will be spent wisely, with local businesses and local people benefitting from this injection of cash into the local economy.

“Stechford has one of the busiest public contact offices within West Midlands Police, which is why we’re expanding that part of the building to increase waiting areas and counter space.”
