Anthony Jarvis was arrested and charged with nine thefts from shops, and one attempted theft, all in the Sutton area.

At Birmingham Magistrates Court on Saturday, November 8, the 32-year-old, of no fixed address, was jailed for more than nine months, and given a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).

The order, which runs for 18 months, imposes strict conditions on Jarvis entering certain shops in Sutton, and West Midlands Police said he will face a further prison sentence if he does.

Neighbourhood Sgt Heather Jones said: "Our team of local officers in Sutton have worked hard to bring these charges against Jarvis and get him before the courts - as we know that shop theft causes concern for our community.

"Patrolling key locations and targeting known offenders forms a big part of that.

"Jarvis has rightly been punished for his crimes, and the CBO reinforces our work to keep shopping areas safe and protect retail workers.

"It's vital that retailers reports theft to us, and raise any concerns with local officers."

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We're working hard to tackle shop theft offences across the West Midlands, and arrests for it have risen over 60 per cent in the last two years as we've improved the way we respond to crime reports.
