Man, 24, jailed after admitting rape and sexual assault in Staffordshire

A man has been jailed for nine years and nine months after he admitted raping a woman in Tamworth.

Mohammad Wajid Koko, aged 24, of no fixed address, appeared at Stafford Crown Court on Thursday after he had previously pleaded guilty to rape and the sexual assault of a woman. 

On June 2, 2024, Koko approached a woman in the Tamworth area before raping and sexually assaulting her.

On hearing of the incident, Staffordshire Police deployed specialist detectives, and Koko was arrested a short time later. 

He was taken in for questioning and was charged before being sent to court. 

DC Molly Guishard, from Staffordshire Police's rape and serious sexual offences unit (RASSO), said: "I’d like to commend the survivor in this case for her immeasurable bravery throughout the investigation.

“Those who commit sexual offences in Staffordshire will be relentlessly pursued by officers and specialist teams who care deeply about supporting survivors and taking robust action against offenders."

As well as being jailed for nine years and nine months, Koko will also be placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.
