'It's sad to see this happen and very scary': Shock at violent disorder in quiet Wolverhampton community as three men taken to hospital
The latest violent incident to happen within Wolverhampton in a matter of weeks has left a community shocked.
There was still a police presence around Staveley Road in Whitmore Reans this morning (Tuesday) following a violent disorder incident yesterday afternoon.
The incident, which brought a large number of police to the scene, happened around 4.45pm and left three men injured, with one being conveyed under emergency driving conditions to hospital.
It also saw the area on Staveley Road on Peace Park cordoned off while police teams investigated the incident and checked the area, which had remained cordoned off the next morning and with a police car standing nearby.
Numerous residents and shop owners could be seen looking over at the cordoned-off area and discussing with each other what had happened.
A resident said he hadn't seen the incident, but had been told what had happened and said he felt worried after other events in the city.
He said: "I came down to the shop last night and saw police everywhere and I've been told it was a couple of people fighting.
"It's not something that happens around here as it's a very tight-knit community and the only trouble seems to come when people from outside come here.
"It's sad to see this happen and very scary because of what has been happening in Whitmore Reans and Phoenix Park."
The incident at Staveley Road is just one of a number of violent incidents to happen in Wolverhampton over the last few months, with Navpreet Singh murdered in Phoenix Park in Blakenhall on October 22, just yards from a shooting in August that has led to a man admitting attempted murder.
Another man, Jermaine Smith, was shot dead on Lilleshall Crescent in the All Saints area on Saturday, while detectives have also investigated a possible discharge of a gun in the city on October 21, a man was shot and badly injured in a daytime attack near Wolverhampton's city centre Sainsbury's store on October 13 and two men, Duaine Mills and Syed Zain Ali, were fatally shot as they sat in a vehicle in Whitmore Reans on September 19.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said last night: "We were called to disorder in Staveley Road, Wolverhampton, at around 4.45pm today (October 27).
"Three people have been taken to hospital for injuries to be assessed.
"We're in the early stages of our enquiries and officers are currently on the scene."
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a stabbing on Staveley Road in Whitmore Reans, Wolverhampton at 4.49pm, yesterday and sent two ambulances, three paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor with a critical care paramedic and the WMAS Critical Care Car to the scene.
"On arrival, crews found a man who they treated for serious injuries and conveyed him under emergency driving conditions to hospital.
"A second man was treated for potentially serious injuries, and a third man was treated for injuries not believed to be serious, both were conveyed to hospital.”
