John Wise, who is accused of murdering Mr Adams along with three others, was cross-examined by prosecutor Annabel Darlow which led to several testy exchanges at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Monday (October 20).

The 44-year-old said: "He was biting my leg, he started at the bottom and bit a huge chunk out of my calf. I was shouting 'why have you done that for' and lashed out at him with my leg.

"He headbutted me, punched me and bit my leg. Would you say that conduct was OK? I would not. I had never seen him before."

When asked why he told a social worker he had seen Mr Adams going to the toilet in the Gough Arms to take cocaine, he said: "I did not say I had seen him, I was told that. The first I saw of him was when he headbutted me."
