Delayed murder trial of man accused of killing Rhiannon Skye Whyte at Bescot Railway Station set to begin today
The trial of the man accused of murdering Rhiannon Skye Whyte at Bescot Stadium Railway Station is set to begin today.
The 27-year-old hotel worker died in hospital three days after being stabbed at Bescot Stadium Railway Station on October 20 last year.
The trial of Deng Chol Majek, 20, who is charged with murdering Ms Whyte, was due to start in March but had been delayed.
The trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court is expected to last three weeks and is being presided over by Justice Michael Soole KC.
Majek, from South Sudan but latterly of Bescot Crescent, Walsall pleaded not guilty to murder at a previous hearing, assisted by an Arabic interpreter as he appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court via video link from HMP Manchester.
The defendant was told at his previous hearing he would be expected to attend the trial in person and not by video link.

In a statement issued through police shortly after her death, Ms Whyte’s family described her as “the most loved daughter, compassionate sister, loving auntie, gracious granddaughter, beautiful niece, wonderful cousin and devoted friend”.
Their statement added: “The most selfless person, you were brave, quirky, funny and always there for anyone who needed it. There is not enough paper in the world to even begin to write a tribute for you, but no-one deserves it more.”
