Warrant issued for arrest of Brierley Hill care home manager accused of defrauding vulnerable resident
A warrant has been issued for a Brierley Hill care home manager after she failed to appear for her fraud trial.
Presiding over the case at Wolverhampton Crown Court, Judge John Butterfield KC issued a bench warrant yesterday (Thursday) for the arrest of Jamiel Slaney-Summers.
The 65-year-old, of Raven Hays Road, Birmingham, is on trial accused of theft and abusing her position for financial gain after a vulnerable resident's will was allegedly changed in favour of her and the owners of Amberley Care Home.
The trial started on Monday, with Graham Walker, aged 74, and Lyn Walker, aged 71, both of Ribbesford Close, Cradley, also in the dock accused of dishonestly abusing their position to make financial gain.
Slaney-Summers was absent on Tuesday, and the court heard she had an appointment with her doctors. The court heard a letter from her medical practice confirmed she had requested to see a GP to get a doctor's note to miss "jury service" due to gastroenteritis which would take 48 hours to subside.
The court heard she sent a WhatsApp message to her solicitors on Wednesday evening saying "she would not be in tomorrow" as she was ill. Attempts were made by her legal team to contact her to stress that missing days from a crown court trial needed more formal correspondence than taking a day off work.
