Driver on phone who was stopped on M6 in Staffordshire 'pretended wife was in labour' - but police then made unexpected discovery

A man was stopped on the motorway in Staffordshire after being caught on his phone - but police then made an unexpected discovery.

The car was stopped on the southbound carriageway near to junction 13. 

Posting on X, Staffordshire Police said the driver pretended his wife was in labour and gave false details to avoid detection which led police to find out he was disqualified.

On searching the car they found 50,000 counterfeit cigarettes in the boot.

The car was stopped on the M6 southbound at the Dunston Interchange by officers from Operation Lightning.
