Plea for public’s help to identify man after attempted robbery in Smethwick

An appeal has been launched to ask for help identifying a man following reports of an attempted robbery in Smethwick.

West Midlands Police has released an image of a man it said it wants to speak to following the incident, which happened in the evening of July 12 on Montague Road.

It saw a man lean inside a car and assault a woman in her 40s, causing her to hit a parked vehicle.

The force has asked for anyone with any information to get in touch as soon as possible.

"We’re appealing for help to identify the man in the image following a report of an attempted robbery on Montague Road, in Smethwick, on July 12, at 7pm.

"The victim in her 40s was inside her car when a man leant in through the window and assaulted her causing the car to hit a parked vehicle.

"Thankfully she was not seriously injured.

"If you recognise the man in the image, or have any information that could help the officers investigating get in touch with us.
