Police are continuing to investigate after a shooting incident that led to the death of a man in Whitmore Reans.

Wolverhampton's Whitmore Reans community was brought to a standstill on Friday, September 19, after a shooting that left one man dead and another in critical condition. 

The incident saw Leicester Street closed just after 3am after officers responded to reports of shots being fired.

On arrival, two men were found seriously injured in a vehicle on the road, with a man in his 20s later being pronounced dead at the scene.

The second man was rushed to the hospital in a life-threatening condition. 

Section 60 powers were later enforced in the area, allowing police to stop and search people without the need for reasonable grounds.

The shooting took place at around 3am on Friday morning, and saw police respond after reports of shots being fired. 

On arrival, the force discovered two men in a vehicle on the road, with both being in a life-threatening condition.

The first man, aged in his 20s, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

A second man, aged in his 30s, was found to have suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital.

Officers remained at the scene throughout the day, with forensic investigators being seen doing 'scene sweeps' and making enquiries at nearby houses.

Following the incident, members of the community made desperate pleas to stem the amount of crime on their streets, with many calling for an increase in policing and efforts from Wolverhampton Council.

Residents spoke to Express & Star reporter Daniel Walton, talking of their fear of living in the area.

In the hours following the incident, Kamal, a resident near the scene, said: "I've been living here for more than 10 years. It's always been like this. 

"This needs to change; we need the crime to stop. If it doesn't, this will happen again. Please stop this."

A police investigation is still ongoing following the shooting, with police continuing to ask for anyone with information to get in touch.

The appeal has asked for anyone with information, including CCTV or doorbell footage, to contact the force directly via their 101 number, or Live Chat service on their website, quoting reference 358 of September 19. 

Police were also granted section 60 powers, which allow them to stop and search anyone in the vicinity of the incident without the need for reasonable grounds. 

The powers ran out at 8am on Saturday morning.

A manhunt was launched on Sunday afternoon for 38-year-old Mohammed Maneer Khan, who is wanted in connection with the murder.

Anyone who has seen Mohammed is urged not to approach him, and instead contact 999 immediately, quoting reference 358 of 19 September.
