Man in 30s arrested on suspicion of racially-aggravated rape in Oldbury
Police have arrested a man in connection with the racially-aggravated rape of a Sikh woman in Oldbury.
A man in his 30s was detained yesterday (Sunday) as part of enquiries into the assault in the Tame Road area on Tuesday morning.
The victim, a Sikh woman, was racially abused in the course of the attack which led to a massive outpouring of support from the community which included a 500-strong protest in Smethwick and Oldbury on Sunday.
The man remained in custody overnight on suspicion of rape. The woman is continuing to receive support as investigations continue.
Chief Superintendent Kim Madill, of Sandwell Police, said: "This is a significant development in the investigation and we want to thank the community for their continuing support.
"The investigation remains ongoing and we would urge people not to speculate as we work to identify and trace all those who may have been involved."

She added: "We would remind everyone that legal proceedings are now active and we'd stress the importance of allowing the judicial process to follow its course."
