'Senseless' - Killer who murdered his own mother in her home then told police 'I just lost my head' gets life sentence
A man who killed his own mother in the family home then confessed to a relative has been sent to prison.
Surjit Singh, aged 39, told a relative that he’d attacked Mohinder Kaur, aged 76, at the family home on Clarence Road, Soho, Birmingham.
Singh returned to the scene and was arrested by police, later telling officers: "I didn't mean to do it. I just lost my head."
Ms Kaur had phoned 999 after speaking to Singh at around 1pm on September 29 last year. Police forced their way into the property and found her lying on the living room floor.
She was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital but was pronounced dead just before 11.30pm.
She died as a result of injuries consistent with "a number of blows", West Midlands Police said, but it is not clear whether a weapon was used and no motive has been established.

Singh went on to plead guilty to murder and was jailed yesterday (Friday, September 12) at Birmingham Crown Court. He was sentenced to a life sentence, with a minimum term of 15 years.
West Midlands Police detective inspector Nick Barnes said: "This senseless killing has torn apart a family, and our thoughts remain with everyone affected.”
