Great grandfather Harold Monk, 94, left his key in the lock of his flat at Inglewood Court. Tragically for him, Paul Topham was visiting his mother at the time and stole it from the lock.

In evidence to Wolverhampton Crown Court, Topham said: "I did not even break stride, I saw the key dangling out the lock and put it in my pocket so I could return and burgle the place."

Three days later high on mamba and crack Topham returned to Inglewood Court and used the security fob to gain entry to the complex. He let himself into Mr Monk's flat around 2am on October 3 and began rifling through his belongings.
