£300k cannabis factory discovered in Birmingham city centre
Cannabis plants with an estimated street value of £300,000 have been discovered in a Birmingham city centre building.
West Midland's Police said officers from the city's Operation Taurus and neighbourhood colleagues acting on a tip-off discovered more than 300 plants at an industrial unit in Trent Street in Digbeth on August 30.
The plants were confiscated and then destroyed.
The force said: "Drug crime has no place in our community and we are relentlessly pursuing those involved in it. We are committed to listening to the community and acting on the information provided to us, as it can be invaluable in tackling crime.
“This was a significant find and will mean sizable disruption to the criminals growing drugs, as our investigation continues."
It added that due to the amount of heat and lighting required for cannabis growing, the electricity meters are illegally and dangerously bypassed, which can cause catastrophic fires.
The force said the investigation into the discovery is ongoing and anyone with information should contact 101 quoting crime reference number 20/360668/25.
