Man grabbed youth's neck for 10 seconds after losing temper in Black Country town

A violent drunk was arrested for grabbing a teenager's neck after losing his temper with him in the Black Country.

Wolverhampton Crown Court heard that the 49-year-old man grabbed the youth's neck resulting in him gasping for breath, struck him in the face with his knee and tried to punch him three times during the incident which happened on July 15.

At a previous hearing the defendant admitted an offence of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intentional strangulation. 

The court heard that he had an alcohol addiction and regularly drank four cans of lager a day and had been on prison remand since his arrest the following day.

Sentencing the man on Wednesday (September 3) Mr Recorder Geoffrey Kelly said: "I have seen the footage which shows these assaults. It is absolutely shocking in my view."
