The viable firearm was seized after officers from West Midlands Police searched an address on Meadow Close in Harborne on June 29.

The force said that officers had been called to an incident where it was reported a gun had been brandished during an argument. Police then found the gun, which was established to be an illegally converted Ekol, as well as ammunition within a vacuum cleaner.

Alan Teague was arrested shortly afterwards and he went on to admit possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The 49-year-old, of Meadow Close, was jailed for five years at Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday, August 28.

Detective Sergeant Rosie Thomas, from the West Midlands Police Major Crime Unit, said: "It wasn't the most typical place we'd find a gun, but the main thing is we were able to seize it and convict Teague.

"It was established to be an Ekol blank-firing pistol which had been converted to become a viable weapon. It became illegal earlier this year to have such top-venting blank firers as they are readily convertible.

"Guns cause fear and harm within our communities and we'll continue to take viable firearms off the streets."
