Man charged with causing death by dangerous driving after woman dies in Smethwick fatal collision

A man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a woman died in Smethwick after being hit by a car.

The incident happened on Thursday evening on Thimblemill Road and saw the 62-year-old woman die at the scene, while the driver of the car was arrested.

Erjon Aliaj has now been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, with the 35-year-old, of no fixed address, remanded in custody to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court today.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We’ve charged a man following a fatal collision in Smethwick.

"We were called to Thimblemill Road shortly before 9.30pm on Thursday (28 August) after a car struck a pedestrian.

"Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the 62-year-old woman sadly died at the scene.

"Erjon Aliaj was arrested following the incident and has now been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

"The 35-year-old was remanded in custody to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates today (August 30).

"Our thoughts remain with the woman’s family at this tragic time, and specialist officers are keeping them up to date with the latest developments.
