The stabbing happened in the early hours of Saturday morning (August 30) on Middlemist Grove, Great Barr and saw a man in his 20s present at hospital with serious injuries, while an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.

Hours after the incident, there was still a visible police presence at the entrance of the cul-de-sac, with a cordon at both ends of the road and over the entrance to the house.

It was an incident which residents living on the nearby Hamstead Road said was completely out of character for the area as they struggled to believe what had happened.

One resident, who asked not to be named, said he had heard the sounds of people running down the road and was shocked to learn what had happened.

He said: "I was sleeping when it happened, but I was woken up by what sounded like people running down the road, but it wasn't until this morning that I saw the police on the road and the tape along it.
