Warinder Juss said he had met with senior police officers and was satisfied that everything was being done to bring the offenders to justice.

Two men, one in his 60s, the other in his 70s, were taken to hospital following the attack on Friday night (August 15). A 17-year-old boy and two men aged 19 and 25 were arrested and taken into custody in connection to the attack, before later being released on bail.

Mr Juss said: “I was shocked and horrified by the video circulating on social media showing a violent attack on two Sikh gentlemen outside Wolverhampton railway station on Friday afternoon.

"My thoughts are with the men who were attacked, and their families, and I wish them a full and speedy recovery."

Mr Juss met with chief inspectors Chris Hodgkiss and Mani Gill of British Transport Police yesterday (Tuesday), and had detailed discussions relating to the incident.

"The chief inspectors confirmed that following the arrests, their inquiries are going well with CID involved, hate crime is taken very seriously, and that they are treating the incident as a racially motivated crime.

"I am therefore reassured that British Transport Police has treated this matter with the necessary seriousness, and that they are doing all that they can, to ensure that the perpetrators are properly dealt with, and that we do not have a recurrence of such an incident.

"I want to thank British Transport Police for giving the matter the seriousness it warrants, and for their swift action leading to arrests.

"As a proud Wulfrunian, I have often praised our city’s diversity and harmonious community relationships, which we all need to protect on every occasion.

"We must now allow the police and related authorities to carry out their work, for due process to be followed."

Mr Juss said he had been asked to be kept updated with proceedings in this matter, and said he would be meeting again with police to discuss progress on the matter.
