Public across Staffordshire urged to guard against burglars as hot weather hits
Residents across Staffordshire have been reminded to stay vigilant and protect their homes and vehicles against opportunistic burglars following the recent spell of hot weather.
Staffordshire Police have put out a reminder to residents to be careful with leaving doors and windows open, following an incident where a car was stolen in Stafford when access was gained to a house through an open downstairs window and the keys were taken.
A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "Burglars can use smaller windows, or those left ajar, to open a larger window and gain access to a property.
"Just before 5.20am on Friday, we were told that an Audi A7 had been stolen from outside a property in Stafford.
"Offenders gained access to the address through an open downstairs window and took the keys to the vehicle, which was parked on the driveway.
"The offenders reversed the vehicle off the drive and headed towards the A51. Our investigation is ongoing."
The force has also issued some prevention advice to keep homes secure.
These include ensuring doors and windows are securely locked, even when at home, keeping gardens clear so that would-be criminals cannot easily hide, keeping ground-floor windows closed and locked overnight and keeping valuables and keys out of sight from doors and windows.
