Man pleads guilty to causing death of four-year-old girl who was struck in Birmingham car crash
An uninsured driver has pleaded guilty to causing the death of four-year-old Mayar Yahia following a two-car crash in Birmingham.
Mayar Yahia was walking with her family on the pavement in Upper Highgate Street in Highgate on April 14. She was among three females to be hit as a result of the collision which happened after celebrations to mark the Eid religious festival.
Tragedy struck when two vehicles were involved in a collision which resulted in one of them, a Vauxhall Corsa, then mounting the pavement and colliding with a group of pedestrians including the youngster and despite best efforts of paramedics at the scene she passed away.
Two women were also seriously injured and survived the incident.

West Midlands Police said its inquiries revealed that Javonnie Tavener, aged 23, was the driver of the Corsa and he was subsequently charged with offences of causing death by careless driving, causing death whilst driving uninsured and two counts of causing serious injury by careless driving.
He appeared at Birmingham Crown Court on July 30 and admitted all the matters. Tavener has been remanded in custody is due to be sentenced at a later date.

Det Sgt Paul Hughes, of the force's serious collision investigation unit, said: “Mayar was just four-years-old when her life was tragically taken away from her. She was walking back with her family and friends after celebrating Eid.
“Pedestrians should be afforded and be reassured of protection when walking on the pavement and a split-second decision by Tavener to overtake where he did has led to this tragic chain of events.
“I would urge all drivers to think about this incident and how those decisions can have such catastrophic consequences."
