West Midlands Police officers arrested two men, aged 39 and 23, and seized a firearm after being alerted to suspicious activity in Caldmore Green, Walsall, yesterday morning (July 30).

Firearms officers attended the scene at around 4.40am and following a search of the area, two men were arrested on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm.

A number of nearby roads, including Wednesfield Road and Glebe Street, were closed off as a forensic examination was carried out, with the road closures lifted just after 8.10am.

The firearm was confirmed to be a blank firer, with both men remaining in custody for questioning.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "The firearm recovered was confirmed as a blank firer and weapons like this, which can be used in crimes and to cause fear, have no place in our communities.
