Drunk man who charged at moving police car, smashed windscreen and injured screaming officer avoids jail
A drunk man who jumped on the bonnet of a moving police car in Smethwick before kicking in the windscreen injuring an officer has avoided jail.
When the 'terrified' West Midlands Police officer put his foot down to accelerate the vehicle Andrei-Cristian Baciu was flipped over the roof and knocked unconscious. He suffered a fractured skull when he hit Bearwood Road.
The police officer in the passenger seat was injured when a shard of glass cut her face. In a statement the driver said he 'will never forget' her scream.
Romanian Baciu, 38, of Wigorn Road, Smethwick, pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting an emergency worker and criminal damage at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

During the sentencing hearing the court was shown CCTV footage which clearly showed Baciu hiding behind a traffic light before leaping onto Bearwood Road then charging at the oncoming car. He kicked the windscreen before the police car accelerated. The police car then did a U-turn and stopped traffic as Baciu lay prone on the road.
