A passenger boarded the 11C bus on Vicarage Road in Kings Heath, Birmingham, on April 17.

The male passenger was asked by the driver to put his dog on a lead and refused before becoming aggressive, West Midlands Police said.

He racially abused the driver before spitting at him and assaulting him, leaving him with cuts to his forehead.

Police have now released a photo of a man they believe could help with the investigation.

Investigating officer PC Agnieszka Collier said: “This was a nasty, unnecessary assault on a man who was just doing his job.

“We would urge anyone who was on the bus at the time, or who recognises the man pictured, to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information that could help the investigation call 101 quoting crime reference number 20/212867/25.
