More than 100 arrests made as drugs and weapons seized in county lines crackdown across the West Midlands
More than 100 arrests have been made while drugs, weapons and more than £250,000 in suspected crime-linked cash were seized in a crackdown on county lines dealing networks.
Officers from West Midlands Police closed down drug lines during targeted activity against criminal gangs who exploit children and vulnerable adults to supply drugs in the West Midlands and beyond.
County lines refers to criminal gangs or organised networks that traffic illegal drugs from one region to another across the UK.
They typically use mobile phones, often called "deal lines", to manage drug orders and coordinate supply routes.
During a recent dedicated week of action, as part of a national initiative, West Midlands Policesaid it made 113 arrests across the region, a 31 per cent increase compared to a similar crackdown last year.
In total, officers seized more than 2kg of crack cocaine and cocaine, more than 800g of heroin, and more than 1,200 cannabis plants, while also seizing nitrous oxide canisters, illegal vapes and other class B drugs.
The team also seized more than £260,000 of cash, 53 vehicles suspected to be involved in county lines, and five designer watches and were able to seize 13 firearms and 25 other weapons including zombie knives and machetes.
During the week, 42 adults and 71 children were safeguarded from exploitation with officers making extra referrals to support services.
Detective Inspector Gareth Guest, National County Lines Coordination Centre (NCLCC) lead, said: “The force has a balanced approach towards enforcement, engagement, and safeguarding.
“By cracking down on drugs and weapons and protecting the vulnerable, West Midlands Police are making communities safer for everyone.
"We work closely with our partners in the Violence Reduction Partnership, local authority, and Home Office to coordinate long-lasting solutions that stop criminal activity spreading across the country.
“We’re not just arresting offenders - we’re helping people to rebuild their lives.
"Protecting vulnerable people is our top priority.”
