'I see his face every night before I go to sleep', pensioner's killer tells jurors in murder trial
A burglar who killed a pensioner in his own Wolverhampton home told jurors he sees his face every night before he sleeps.
Paul Topham accepts he punched 94-year-old Harold Monk 'for 20 seconds' during a botched burglary at Mr Monk's home.
Topham, 45, has admitted manslaughter and burglary but denies murdering Mr Monk at Inglewood Court, Bradmore, on October 3 last year.
Wearing a white shirt and black tie, Topham gave evidence in his defence over two days.
When prosecutor Robert Price KC put it to him that he murdered his victim, Topham fired back: "I did not know who was in the flat. I was in a state due to intoxication and wish I had never left my house that night.
