Willenhall man charged after elderly woman injured in robbery

A 26-year-old man has been charged after a woman in her 80s was injured in a robbery.

William Coney, aged 26 and from Willenhall, was remanded to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Saturday (July 19) after being charged with 16 shop theft offences.

Coney was also charged with robbery after a woman in her 80s was robbed and injured on Hawthorne Road on Tuesday, July 8.

He will next appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on August 15.

Sergeant Paul Smith, neighbourhood policing supervisor, said the local neighbourhood team is working closely with local businesses to target prolific offenders in Willenhall town centre as part of the Safer Streets Summer campaign.

He added: “Shop theft has a great impact on local businesses and working alongside our partners, including local businesses and Walsall Council, we are working hard to combat crime in the town centre.”

Officers have been carrying out Safer Streets Summer operations in the town centre, carrying out patrols and offering support to local businesses.

It is part of a national initiative running in town centres and high streets across the UK focusing on anti-social behaviour, retail and street crime.
