Two Black Country Labour councillors 'suspended from party' after police investigation launched

Two Black Country Labour councillors have been suspended after a police investigation was launched.

Blackheath councillor Danny Millard and Rowley representative Claire Mayo, both members of Sandwell Council, have been suspended by the Labour Party after police launched an investigation into an alleged assault in Cradley Heath.

A West Midlands Labour party spokesperson told the Express & Star: 'We are extremely concerned about this incident.

"Both Councillor Millard and Councillor Mayo were administratively suspended by the Labour Party immediately upon receipt of these allegations."

The Labour Party spokesman added: "Given this is subject to a police investigation we are not able to comment further at this time."

The police investigation centres around an incident in the early hours of Sunday (July 20) on Surfeit Hill Road, Cradley Heath. A person was alleged to have been assaulted in Surfeit Hill Road at around 2am.

West Midlands Police and both councillors have been approached for comment.
