Hero police dog assists with arrest of knife-wielding thug on Birmingham bus
A heroic police dog helped take down a knife-wielding thug on a bus in Birmingham.
The four-legged cop, known as PD Riot, responded with his team of humans to reports of a man attempting to rob people armed with a large kitchen knife on Saturday (July 12).
Riot assisted officers in detaining the man, who was subsequently arrested. The knife was also recovered.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police's Dog Unit wrote on X: "Yesterday, there were multiple reports of a male on a bus in Birmingham, armed with a large kitchen knife who was attempting to rob people.

"PD Riot responded to the calls, and on the top floor of the bus the offender was detained and arrested, and the knife recovered."
Locals immediately took to social media to praise the dog's brave assist. One user said: "Good job, well done, PD Riot!" while another added: "Praise God no one was injured! Well done PD Riot!"
Police Dog Riot is a general-purpose police dog who has served with West Midlands Police, alongside his handler PC Wayne Trueman.
He is a German Shepherd known for his bravery and operational effectiveness - and has even demonstrated his training skills in performances at Crufts.
