Walsall man appears in court to deny murder charge over baby death

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a five week-old-baby.

Sean Jefferson, 35, of Lichfield Road, Walsall, faces a number of charges over the death of five-week old baby.

During a hearing at Stafford Crown Court all the charges were put to Jefferson - who pleaded not guilty to all counts.

They include murder, manslaughter, causing or allowing a child to die, two counts of GBH, two counts of causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm, and cruelty to a person under 16.

Amy Clarke, 33, of Enots Close, Lichfield, also appeared via video link during the hearing.

Last month Clarke was also charged with murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, two counts of Section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent, and three counts of causing/allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm.

No charges were put to Clarke during today's hearing, with another hearing scheduled for September.
