Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson said the force was dealing with around 200 complaints of lockdown breaches each day, while the number of "directions to leave" given by officers had hit 14,099.

He said: "I would urge people to follow the guidance and stay safe from this awful disease."

A report to the PCCs strategic board said crime levels across the region have continued to increase, with October the highest month on record since 2005.

It said: "This has been predominately due to significant increases around recorded domestic abuse crimes and harassment offences that now make up one in every six recorded crimes.

"A number of interventions to continue ensuring as high a crime data accuracy as possible have pushed up volumes of low level harm crimes."

Mr Jamieson said: "Despite a reduction in acquisitive crimes such as theft, a huge spike in domestic abuse increased crime in October to levels last seen 15 years ago.

"One in six recorded crimes now are domestic abuse or harassment.

"My message is clear, if you are a victim of domestic abuse report the crime to the police and it will be prioritised.

"There is never an excuse for abuse and it will not be tolerated in the West Midlands."
