Police dog attacked with machete during investigation
A police dog was attacked with a machete while detaining a suspect.
PD Stark was taking part in an investigation by West Midlands Police A Unit, which was sent to search for people in an area of Birmingham seen acting suspiciously with torches.
After locating and detaining a male at the scene, PD Stark was left with injuries after being struck repeatedly with a machete but still managed to bite the suspect on the leg before he was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and assaulting a police dog.
The16-year-old boy was taken to hospital so his injuries could be checked over and will be taken into police custody later. and PD Stark was taken to a 24-hour vet for treatment.
A West Midlands Polioce spokesman said: "One of our police dogs was attacked with a knife on Larch Avenue in Handsworth, Birmingham, at around 4am this morning after he was deployed with Pc Paul Hopley to a report of a break-in at allotments on the road.
"Police dog Stark was struck with a knife on his head, but still managed to bite the offender on his leg before he was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and assaulting a police dog.
"Luckily, our brave PD Stark is going to be OK.
