Derek Brennan, 32, and his nephew Daman Sehra, 22, are accused of murdering Amjad Khan who died on June 13, 2019, after he suffered head injuries.

He was allegedly beaten five days earlier by Brennan and Sehra at a property in Yardley Close, Bristnall Fields, Oldbury, on June 8, just before 1am.

The property was owned by Lisa Sehra who is the mother of Daman Sehra and sister of Brennan.

At the trial which is taking place at Wolverhampton Crown Court, a witness, called Miss Sadler, said Sehra - referred to as Daniel at court - telephoned her to say he had "punched someone".

More from the trial:

She said : "I had a call from Daniel. He wanted to talk to me. He said he had punched someone."

Both defendants attended Miss Sadler's address where they spoke about an assault which had taken place, the court heard.

Miss Sadler said: "Daniel said ‘an Asian person has been forcing drugs upon my mom’."

Brennan then told Miss Sadler "I don’t like this p***, kept forcing it on my sister", the court heard.

Miss Sadler was also told that "Daniel punched him that hard he was coughing clots”, jurors heard.

Prosecuting, Mr Andrew Smith QC, said the drugs were referred to as "beez" in a conversation, which is believed to be a slang term.

Miss Sadler said: "I don’t know if this is crack cocaine or heroin."

Khan called Ms Sehra at around 11.55pm on June 7 saying he was going to visit her.

When he arrived, he went upstairs into a lounge area where he met the two defendants who refused to shake his hand, the trial heard.

The court was told Brennan then approached Khan from behind and put his arms around his neck area.

Ms Sehra intervened – leading Daman Sehra to punch Mr Khan who fell to the floor, said Mr Smith.

The victim was then kicked and stamped on repeatedly.

Both defendants - Sehra, of no fixed address, and Brennan, of Halesowen Road, Netherton - deny murder.

Sehra, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the ground of diminished responsibility, as well as a charge of assault by actual bodily harm, but denies murder.

He has also been charged with attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, which he denies.

The defendant has pleaded guilty to a charge of assault by actual bodily harm.

Brennan, of Halesowen Road, Netherton, pleaded not guilty to murder, manslaughter, grievous bodily harm and actual bodily harm.

The trial continues.
