Man dies from his injuries after Wolverhampton pub trouble
A man has died from injuries after an incident outside a city-centre pub in Wolverhampton last weekend.
The Old Still Inn in King Street was sealed off by police after the man was injured shortly before 11pm last Saturday.
The man suffered a serious head injury when he was assaulted outside the pub, police said.
He was rushed to hospital, but a West Midlands Police spokesman confirmed on Friday that the 50-year-old man had died from his injuries.
The identity of the victim is not yet known but he is understood to have been drinking at the pub before being injured outside. He was given first aid at the scene by other pub customers before being taken to hospital by paramedics.
A 36-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of assault, has been released pending further investigation.
A spokesman from West Midlands Police said: "A 50-year-old man who was taken to hospital with a serious head injury following an incident outside the Old Still pub on King Street, Wolverhampton just before 11pm on Saturday, January 19, has sadly died from his injuries.
"The victim’s family are being supported by specialist officers and a 36-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of assault has been released pending further investigation.
"The case remains under review."
The spokesman added that they have not launched a murder investigation – but the case remains under constant review.
The Old Still, which is on the pedestrianised corner of Princess Street and King Street and is popular for karaoke, was closed in the immediate aftermath of the incident and a blue forensic tent remained outside on Sunday morning.
King Street remained closed either side of the pub on Sunday afternoon, with pedestrians unable to get through from Dudley Street or Princess Street.
