Guilty - Brandon Dowen and John Cox

Telford Go Carz driver Ishfaq Hussain, 51, crashed after being beaten up in a confrontation with John Cox and Brandon Dowen.

The pair pursued the grandfather, who had a heart condition, at speeds in excess of 60mph along Ironbridge Road, in Madeley, on August 7 over claims he had upset Dowen’s girlfriend.

Cox, 32, of Harrowby Road, Fordhouses, Wolverhampton, and Dowen, 19, of Park Street, Madeley, were locked up for six years after being convicted of the taxi driver’s manslaughter.

Cox, a father-of-two originally from Northern Ireland, has previous convictions and was jailed for theft for six months in 2010. He is the partner of Dowen's mother and was driving her Peugeot on the fateful night.

In his victim impact statement read at Stafford Crown Court Mr Hussain’s son Ibrar Mohammed said: “Every day is a struggle and I grieve every single day.

"I feel broken and I don’t look forward to anything anymore.

“I miss my dad more than anything. The day he was taken away everything changed.”

“I honestly do not know how we will move on.

"We try to avoid family occasions as we just find them too painful to be there without him.

"My dad was an amazing person who was popular with family and friends and the whole community.

"He was kind, generous, funny, laid back and would help anyone. He loved making people smile.

“My dad was taken away from us too early and I will forever miss him and forever be in pain.”

Mr Mohammed added that Mr Hussain had helped to care for his two disabled brothers but, since his death, he has had to take his place while also looking after his own wife and children.

West Mercia Police commander for Telford, Superintendent Tom Harding, said: “This incident caused a considerable amount of concern in the community at the time and I’m pleased two men have now been found guilty of the manslaughter of Mr Hussain and that they will spend a considerable amount of time in prison.”
