A businessman accused of murdering his wife has appeared at court.

Gurpreet Singh, who was assisted by a Punjabi interpreter, spoke only to confirm his details when he came before Birmingham Magistrates' Court on this morning.

Prosecutors allege the 42-year-old killed Sarbjit Kaur, who was discovered unconscious at their Goldthorn Hill home, in Rookery Lane, three months ago.

Singh, who was wearing a white shirt and dark trousers, was charged by West Midlands Police on Wednesday evening.

He was remanded in custody and is due before Birmingham Crown Court on Monday.

A post-mortem revealed Mrs Kaur, 38, died from asphyxiation in February.
