The number of ribbons has grown over the last 24 hours as people to mourn the death of the eight-year-old last weekend.

Many have appeared near St James Church and on lamp posts and among floral tributes outside the home, in Valley View.

The church itself was opened yesterday for a day of reflection to allow people to light candles to remember Mylee.

Meanwhile, more than £1,500 has been raised for Mylee’s family through an online GoFundMe campaign.

The page was set up by supporter David Healey and the money is to be given to Mylee’s mother Tracey Taundry.

It has already smashed through its original target of £500.

A group of people helped establish an appeal through social media to tie pink ribbons around the town in solidarity with the girl's family.

This campaign has gathered pace and ribbons have now appeared across the town centre in the last 48 hours.

Becky Bridgart, who is part of the group to help with the pink ribbon campaign, said: “The response has been amazing, everyone in the town has been participating in it.

"We are doing it for that little girl to show her family that we are thinking of them.

“We don’t know the family well but did it on the spur of the moment.

“My friend said wouldn’t it be nice to do it for Mylee – the help we’ve had from everyone has been unbelievable.”

There are also 25 tins in shops around the town for people to donate towards Mylee’s funeral.

It came as police revealed they hoped to question her father Bill Billingham.

He suffered a stab wound to his stomach and has been in hospital since the weekend, undergoing surgery on Monday.
