Jamie Edmunds, of Shirley Road, Dudley, was caught in the red Fiat 500 he had taken without consent while he was driving it on South Bank Road in Cradley Heath on March 5.

He was already out on licence for dangerous driving and as such was recalled to continue the remainder of his sentence until August.

Edmunds was also handed a further 24 weeks in custody for stealing the car.

Prosecutor Roger Blezzard said: "He met someone in a pub on March 4.

"They drank together and then he went back to her place and spent the night.

"Next morning she notices her car and the keys have gone.

"Officers see him driving on South Bank Road and identify him as a disqualified driver. He is detained and also had a small quantity of cannabis on his person.

"He was previously convicted of dangerous driving and given a custodial sentence in 2015, disqualified for 24 months."

Defending Edmunds, Mrs Dawn Foxhall, said: "He is very ashamed of his behaviour.

"He is in a stable relationship and discovered that he is going to be a father for the first time.

"He had a job but now he is back to square one. He apologises to the lady concerned.

"He is going to miss out on a lot of firsts but he knows that he only has himself to blame."

Edmunds was recalled to prison to continue his sentence for dangerous driving but must also serve an additional 24 weeks for taking a car without consent, with eight weeks concurrent for driving whilst disqualified, and no separate penalties for the driving without insurance and cannabis offence.

He must also pay a victim surcharge of £115.

Edmunds was further banned from driving for a further 12 months. He must pass a re-test before being allowed to drive again.
